Bio
Jianyuan Ding was born and raised in Shanghai, China. Ding received her bachelor of arts in Art from the University of California, Irvine, and she is currently studying her Master in Fine Arts at California College of the Arts. Ding mainly works with photography to explore the connection between the act of observation and inner perception, rethinking the relationship between images and between images with one’s own self. She shapes her eyes on small things and overlooked details of everyday life and nature to uncover subtle implicit meanings within mindful observation. Ding explores metaphors, imaginations, and sequences within photographs to find and create meanings from nothingness. She uses this explorable way to create an intangible and poetic narration to evoke others’ subtle feelings from experiencing and seeing. She is also interested in experimenting different printed materials with photographs.
